May 31 - June 2 | Theme Speaker: Darrell Johnson, Pastor at First Baptist Church, Vancouver
"Everyone was there - all nations and tribes, all races and languages. And they were standing...and singing, 'Salvation to our God on his Throne! Salvation to the Lamb!'" Rev. 7:9-10 (The Message)
Often the church struggles to understand the fact that we are both “gathered and scattered” as a people. One of the places it shows up commonly is in the way we shape our gathered worship to respond to the missional call of God’s people. What are the new realities of our world that have an impact on how we worship? What are the missional realities that shape our gatherings? How does our worship change our engagement in the world around us? When worship and mission meet, how are we transformed?
Darrell W. Johnson, our theme speaker, is Senior Pastor at First Baptist Church in Vancouver, B.C. and former Associate Professor of Pastoral Theology at Regent College. Prior to that, he served nearly 30 years in pastoral ministry. In addition to serving a number of churches in California, he ministered in Manila, Philippines, during the tumultuous time known as the “People Power Revolution” where he saw firsthand how preaching can shape history. Darrell believes that one of the greatest needs in our time is winsome and robust preaching that connects with both head and heart.
Worship Alternatives On Friday afternoon, in keeping with our theme “At the Intersection of Worship and Mission,” we will have five options of ways to explore worship, perhaps differently than you often do. Four alternate styles of worship gatherings and one workshop exploring the theology of missional worship will be offered. Choose the option that will allow you to connect with God in worship, while allowing God to engage you more completely in mission.
Plenary Worship at Assembly Each year, the plenary worship experiences are an integral part of the assembly experience. This year, worship will be led by a joint team from various congregations of the CBOQ, shaped to express the range of who we are as a family of churches. Our desire is not only to worship meaningfully, but also model together what happens when worship and mission intersect.
