Biography of Rev. Tim McCoy
Tim has served as Director of Youth Ministries for Canadian Baptists of Ontario and Quebec (CBOQ) for four years. Under his outstanding leadership, vision for CBOQ youth has been developed and CBOQ’s youth ministry has grown in exciting ways. For example, youth retreats held recently have experienced the largest participation and continue to grow in reaching youth. Tim has worked successfully with CBOQ churches and leaders, helping them develop vision and ministry for youth. He has provided coaching for new youth pastors and has developed a focus on relational leadership development with youth pastors and leaders. He also has initiated a youth mission emphasis for global and national youth mission opportunities.
Tim has contributed very effectively through leadership roles at the national and international level. He employs his networking skills to bring people together and engage them in mission. He has been Chair of the Youth Team of Canadian Baptist Ministries and an active member of the BWA Youth Executive Team, serving on the International Programming Committee for the BWA Youth World Congress. Tim is also a member of the leadership team of the Youth and Young Adult Ministry Roundtable of the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada. Through CBOQ Youth’s partnership with the annual Canadian Youth Workers’ Conference, Tim has served for three years on the leadership team for this national youth worker gathering.
Since joining CBOQ, Tim has had an opportunity to visit and connect with many of the churches, leaders and members in the Convention. As a member of the CBOQ Executive Team, Tim has contributed to the shaping and implementation of the Convention’s mission to transform churches, leaders and communities for Christ.
Prior to coming to CBOQ, Tim served in a Baptist church in Charlotte, North Carolina, for 12 years as Pastor of Students and Leadership, where he led in developing and growing the church’s youth program into a dynamic and effective ministry. He also established a strong focus on leadership development. Tim served as a networker and consultant for the Carolina Youth Commission, working with a team of staff and volunteers to create a large network of youth pastors and leading in establishing relationships with schools. He has consulted with the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina and has developed his own life coaching ministry.
Tim also has worked as Director of Volunteer Resources for the American Red Cross, managing recruitment and training of 1400 volunteers for a region in North Carolina and providing leadership in volunteer recognition and in the development of corporate teams.
Tim holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religion and Communications from Mars Hill College and a Masters degree in Christian Education, Structural Leadership and Organizational Change from Pfeiffer University. This post graduate degree brings together theological education qualifications (similar to MRE) with qualifications in leadership and organizational change. In this program, Tim collaborated with leaders in business and other sectors and describes it as an incredible learning experience. He is accredited with CBOQ as a pastor and member of the Executive Staff.
Tim is an active member of Kingsway Baptist Church in Etobicoke. He’s been married for 20 years to Julie, who is on the staff team at Kingsway. Tim and Julie are parents to three teenagers.
