Large Church

The majority of our CBOQ churches are smaller and yet in some centres we do have larger congregations, complete with multiple staff, larger facilities and a rich variety of programs. Many of these churches are Seven-Days-a-Week churches. Their needs and opportunities are unique. Their resources enrich others, including the smaller churches around them. Their leadership helps to mentor, encourage and inspire other leaders and congregations.

We are grateful for churches and ministries that are diverse - some large, some small, some in between - each seeking to 'show and tell' the Good News of Christ's Kingdom within their sphere of influence - locally (and today, in an ever-shrinking world), globally as well.

Actually, whether as members of small or larger churches all Christians will want to learn to put into practice their faith in Jesus Christ. An article published in Net Results discussed why many believers are not changed by the small group experience of their church. The emphasis on cognitave (thinking) learning and awareness did not follow through into a lifestyle of transformed practice. The article challenges churches to change the nature of their small groups from being teaching-focused to being discipleship-focused. 'A disciple is simply someone who is "learning" to put their faith into practice. Disciples are less interested in learning "about" God and are more interested in a real relationship with God. They want their lives to make a real difference in their real world. Shifting the focus of a small group to discipleship encourages participants to put into practice the skills of their faith.'
