Reignite

ReIgnite is a CBOQ Pastors' and Ministry Workers' Conference sponsored by the Leadership Development office. Our goal is to encourage, inspire, connect and refresh all our ministry workers. This conference will provide a welcoming and relaxing environment for our pastoral and ministry leaders and spouses to nourish their body, mind and spirit.

You have diligently served all year. This autumn event is designed for you to take a few days away from the intensity of ministries and reignite your
passion for Christ alongside old and new friends. It is our desire that this event becomes a “must go” annual event for all of our ministry leaders across Ontario and Quebec.

This year, our keynote speaker is Dr. Gary Nelson, president of Tyndale University Gary NelsonCollege and Seminary. But perhaps more significantly, Gary is a long-time pastor, having served in Canadian Baptist churches alongside us. His tenure as General Secretary of Canadian Baptist Ministries provided the opportunity for many of us to come to know and appreciate him. Here’s what Gary plans to address with our time together:

Clarifying the Expectations: Pastoral Imaging from a Borderland Perspective

So what should I be? John Maxwell wants us to work on 21 characteristics of “real leadership.” Eugene Peterson and Marva Dawn want us to stimulate a deeper contemplative spirituality, and still others call us to be ‘midwives,’ ‘poets,’ ‘community activists,’ ‘apostolic,’ and LEAD. The result is an increasingly ambiguous understanding of expectations that lead to ranges of paralysis, and even burn out. How do we image the role we are ‘called to’ in the reality of who we are? How do develop a ‘compass point’ which enables us to navigate and negotiate the task we love or at least used to love.

Here are the session topics…

  1. Living as an Apprentice: Nurturing a Passionate Spirituality
  2. Leading as a Pastor: Leaning into the Congregational Community Building
  3. Adventuring as a Missionary: Engaging and Embracing the neighbourhood
  4. Serving as a Theologian: Rediscovering the Critical Role of Pastoral Theologian

Glen Soderholm

Worship times throughout our days together will be led by Glen Soderholm.  Glen is an experienced singer/songwriter/performer and an inspired worship leader who has led diverse gatherings of Christian worshipers in many contexts over the years.  He’ll lead together with an instrumental ensemble developed for this event.
